Patricia “Pat” Madigan-Holliday passed away on Sunday August 23, 2009 peacefully in her home just as she had hoped surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bristol on October 18, 1940 to Jane (McGowan) and the late John Madigan, Pat lived most of her life in Bristol. After some years away, Pat came back to live in the house across the street from the family’s homestead on High Street. This is where she enjoyed seeing her family and friends regularly as well as entertaining them every summer on her infamous garden like front porch. Pat was a member of the Saint Anthony High School Class of 1958. After graduating from the Bristol Hospital LPN program, Pat went on to a career in nursing. First in the operating room at Bristol Hospital, then on to become a staff nurse, and subsequently the Medical Records/Medicare Nurse at the former Farmington Convalescent Home/Haven Health of Farmington where she retired in 2008 due to her illness. Pat leaves behind her three children, two daughters Tracy Wietsma and her husband Eric of Wilbraham, MA and Meghan Porter and her husband Levi of New Sharon, ME; her son Scott and his wife Kerrie of Burlington, CT. She also leaves behind her eight beloved grandchildren, Zachary, Kyle, Matthew and Jack Wietsma; Caitlin, Calvin, and Cayleigh Holliday, and Madigan Porter. In addition, Pat leaves her mother Jane Madigan of Bristol, two sisters, Ann Cook of Chesterfield, MO and her husband Jim, who came to help care for Pat in her last few weeks, and Mary Lou Simmons of Sumter, SC and her husband Francis. One brother, Michael Madigan of Essex, VT and his wife Emmy. A brother-in-law, John Guandalini of Bristol, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Pat was predeceased by her sister, Jane Guandalini. Pat’s family wished to express their greatest appreciation to the Bristol Hospital Cancer Center and Hospice Program and the Polish Helping Hands for the kind and compassionate care Pat received. The funeral will be held Thursday, 9am from DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, followed by a mass at 10am in St. Joseph Church. Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening from 4-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Bristol Hospital, 7 North Washington St., Plainville, CT 06062 or St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Goodwin Street, Bristol, CT 06010.

I extend my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Madigan, Ann and MaryLou and Michael, and all the rest of the Madigan family upon the loss of Pat. She loved to have a good time. I feel fortunate to have shared some of those good times with her as we were growing up on High Street. In later years, her advice on how best to care for my elderly mother was invaluable.
